Reiki Healing

Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Kyoho Usui (1865-1926). Dr. Usui was a Japanese philosopher who searched for understanding of natural healing techniques and of how the main world religions had been able to heal.

He went to America, Tibet and India and studied the “Old Languages” to be able to read the old Christian Writings, the Sutras and the old Tibetan manuscripts.

He had many disappointments until, after a long period of fasting and meditating he was given understanding about healing.

He first used Reiki on himself and then tried it out on his own family and those close to him.

He opened a clinic later on, following personal success.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word that has two parts. ‘Rei’ meaning Universal and ‘Ki” meaning energy. Literally, Reiki means “Universal Life energy”, an energy that is all around us.

The Reiki energy:

The aim of Reiki is to restore balance. Being ‘unbalance’ is being unwell. The Reiki energy tries to remove any blocks, working for what is good or best for the receiver.

Reiki enhances personal awareness and treats the causes of our problems, allowing  us to act in balance with ourselves. Reiki also helps to work with unconditional love in order to get rid of our own fears, the feeling of guilt, uncertainty, rejection, despair and the symptoms and causes of illness.

As in any healing technique, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

Words used in an attempt to describe Reiki energy are love, compassion, nurture, support and peace.

The Reiki treatment:

A Reiki treatment usually takes around 1 hour.

During the treatment, the recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. There is no need to remove any clothing. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions, which cover the whole body.

What to expect after the treatment:

First thing to experience usually is a feeling of warmth, peace and love, followed by a deep relaxation.

Sometimes patients referred to it as: “it’s like my mind is empty”, “like I can see it from another point of view”, “it’s like … numbness”.

Usually people experience a very nice, deep sleep during night and very energized the day after, like a recovery.

Since each of us is different, so are the post-treatment effects. Some people may also experience like an inner happiness, like “something” has change inside.

Others might experience how old feelings, angers, fears, etc. start coming out. Do not worry about it, as it is absolutely normal. If this is your case, just let it out and get rid of it; it is time to heal and to move forward!

Even though some people might have these or other sort of experiences as from the first session, some others might need 2 or 3 sessions before being aware of the benefits of Reiki.
